Friday morning was an early start for Sally and Clare who were in Portsmouth dockyard at 7 a.m. with bouquets ordered by the Ship’s company of HMS Diamond. The Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyer was returning home following a six month deployment and we had to meet the boat transfer which then took the bouquets out to the Ship ready for presentation to their loved ones on disembarkation later in the day. The picture below shows some of the bouquets ordered
Later in the day we were delighted to sponsor the flowers for a ‘1940’s Evening Tea’ held at Wymering Manor
Wymering Manor is a Grade II Listed Historic Building – it is one of the oldest Manor Estates in the country and is the oldest existing house in Portsmouth built in 1581.
In January 2013 Wymering Manor Trust was given responsibility of the Manor by way of asset transfer from Portsmouth City Council. The Trust’s vision is to restore Wymering Manor to its former glory and to give it a new sustainable and vibrant future as a central part of the local community.
The music room, in which the ‘Evening Tea’ was held, forms part of the newer area of the house dating back to the Victorian era and has recently been redecorated and restored by local Funeral Directors, Lee Fletcher (Cosham).
Trust Event Organiser Karen Fletcher had approached Nursery Fresh and asked if we were willing to supply arrangements for the entrance hall and tea cup arrangements for the tables in keeping with the 1940’s theme of the event.
As you will see from the photos below the rooms looked stunning and a great time was had by all with entertainment provided by local singer Amy Baker
The success of the event was testament to the hard work of Karen and her team of volunteers and shows just what can be achieved when a community pulls together.

I am sure that the current warmer spell has given us all hope that Spring is just around the corner and we can all look forward to longer days with hopefully plenty of sunshine.
We were delighted to supply the flowers for another Ship’s homecoming in February. This time it was HMS Richmond who was returning home to Portsmouth from a 7 month deployment. Sally and Clare are now getting used to early morning trips to the dockyard to meet the launch boat transferring the 60 bouquets and 20 single presentation roses which had been pre-ordered by members of the Ship’s Company to give to their loved ones on disembarkation.
The pictures below show the boxes of flowers waiting to be loaded onto the launch at 6.30 in the morning and the bouquets and roses with their appreciative presenters and recipients.
Our wedding section, Bridal Flowers Direct, sponsored the flowers for a Bridal Afternoon Tea held at Langrish House Hotel, near Petersfield in conjunction with Twirl Bridal Boutique, Petersfield
The Fifties inspired event saw Brides and accompanying family and friends being entertained to a ‘fashion show’ of wedding dresses whilst they enjoyed a champagne afternoon tea. Unlike traditional cat walk fashion shows, the models walked between the tables so that Brides could see the dresses and accessories close up. It was great fun to be involved in such an innovative event with such positive feedback from all those who attended.
A couple of weeks ago we held our first ‘tailor made’ workshop. Two of our customers had requested a workshop in which they would learn how to make bridal arrangements. Lead by our in house florist Rebecca Warwick the ladies made bouquets, buttonholes and corsages and as you can see from the photographs were pretty pleased with their achievements. If you would like a workshop designed to your own specifications do let us know.
Looking forward to the coming weeks we are to, once again, supply plant material for the annual Florimania event at Hampton Court Palace over Mothering Sunday weekend, we are hosting another of our highly popular Bridal Flower Open Days on 5th April followed by a demonstration on Saturday 12th April entitled ‘Listening in Colour’ by NAFAS Area Demonstrator Gill Smaggasgale. Please visit our Events page or click on the following links to see full details of these events.

Spring Events at Nursery Fresh
Happy New Year to you all and let’s hope 2014 is a happy, healthy and successful year for us all. It seems unbelievable that we are now almost half way through January but it seems a good opportunity to reflect on the events we were involved with leading up to Christmas.
We were delighted to work with Jane Rickard and the Surrey Area of NAFAS supplying the flowers to “Florimania for Christmas” at Hampton Court Palace. Having supplied “Spring Florimania” for a number of years it was wonderful to see the Palace transformed with a festive floral twist as Williams III’s apartments were dressed with Christmas floral arrangements. Visitors were also able to attend Christmas Wreath and Table Decoration demonstrations by Area Demonstrators.
We now look forward to supplying the next “Spring Florimania” to be held over Mothering Sunday weekend at the end of March.
On the 14th December we welcomed NAFAS demonstrator Irene Hickson to our warehouse for a demonstration entitled “Festive Fantasy”. Over 50 ladies attended the event which saw Irene display examples of festive arrangements in a multitude of colours from pink and purple to the more traditional reds and greens. Irene had been recommended to us by members of a local flower club and we were certainly not disappointed – her enthusiasm, humour and obvious love of flower arranging left everyone inspired and motivated to create their own Christmas designs.
Below is a small selection of photographs from the demonstration.
As we drew closer to Christmas we held two of our very popular Workshop mornings. Lead by our in house florist Rebecca Warwick workshop attendees were shown how to create two Christmas arrangements. The workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended and we have already been asked to hold a ‘tailor made’ workshop for two of the ladies who attended plus some of their friends in the Spring.
Below is a selection of photographs taken at both the Workshops.
18th December was an early start for Clare and Sally who were at Portsmouth Dockyard by 6.30 in the morning to deliver the flowers ordered for the Homecoming of the Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster. Members of the Ship’s company had pre-ordered either a single red rose or a bouquet of flowers for presentation to their loved ones on disembarkation from the Ship after their 7 month deployment to the Caribbean.
The pictures below show the boxes of flowers being loaded onto the launch for transportation out to the Ship prior to its arrival into the Dockyard.

I think that just about summarises the end of last year and we are now preparing for the coming weeks which will include Valentine’s Day and Mothering Sunday followed by what is looking to be a very busy Summer of weddings.
Apologies for the lack of posts in recent weeks but our feet have hardly touched the ground during the Summer.
We have supplied flowers to a record number of Brides and Flower Arrangers this year both locally and nationally via our overnight courier service and are already taking bookings for 2014 and 2015. Judging by the Testimonials we have received, similar to this one, we certainly seem to be ‘getting it right’
Flowers arrived before 9am this morning – the hydrangeas in particular are stunning – so pleased!
Thank you! Carol
Yesterday we were delighted to supply the flowers for the commissioning ceremony in Portsmouth Dockyard of the Royal Navy’s newest destroyer HMS Duncan. Having previously supplied presentation bouquets for the homecomings of her sister ships HMS Dauntless & HMS Diamond it was a privilege to be involved in this special event.
We are currently in the process of finalising our Christmas Programme of events and will post the details on the website in the coming days but can already announce we are to hold another of our popular Bridal Flower Open Days on Saturday 23rd November (see Events page for full details or visit our dedicated Bridal Flower site www.bridalflowersdirect.com) for full details. If you know anyone who is planning a wedding in the coming months do please let them know.
Once again Nursery Fresh were thrilled to be asked to supply the homecoming bouquets for one of the Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyers, HMS Diamond, which returns to Portsmouth today. The bouquets were taken to meet a Royal Navy motor launch, in the early hours of this morning, which took them out to meet the ship ready for its return.
This is the third time that Nursery Fresh Ltd have been asked to provide the flowers for a ship returning home, the last one being HMS Dauntless in November, sister ship of HMS Diamond.
