On Saturday afternoon we were delighted to welcome Dee Watkins, a lecturer in Floristry at Highbury College to our premises to give a demonstration entitled ‘Christmas at Home’. Dee showed us how to make an array of arrangements suitable for any home over the Festive season and inspired us with her innovative designs based around natural and recycled materials. At the end of the Demonstration all the displays were raffled in aid of Rowans Hospice
Our feet have hardly touched the ground in the past two weeks as we begin the lead up to Christmas.
On Saturday 15th November we once again welcomed NAFAS Demonstrator Gill Smaggasgale for a Winter Demonstration entitled ‘Have You Ever Stopped to Wonder’ which started with Gill reciting the first verse of a Christmas Carol she wrote as a child for a Blue Peter Christmas Carol competition. Gill delighted everyone with displays all with a Christmas theme interspersed with ‘Stocking Fillers’ of individual arrangements which gave everyone inspiration for their own Christmas decorations. The demonstration ended with the remainder of the Christmas Carol and raffling off of all the arrangements in aid of Rowan’s Hospice for which we raised an amazing £90.
Last Saturday was our Bridal Flower Open Day which was attended by in excess of 50 Brides / Grooms and their families. We were inundated with enquiries and now have a busy few weeks compiling quotes and meeting with couples who booked appointments for consultations with us. It was lovely to see so many people and we were also delighted to be joined by local companies Eliza Mabel, Queen Bees Treats, Carro’s Cakes, Hana Venn Photography and Quaint and Quirky Event Hire who all loved being part of the day.
Next on the event schedule are our Christmas Open House mornings which take place on Saturday 29th November and Monday 1st December from 10.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. Do join us for a coffee and a mince pie and a chance to view our range of Christmas sundries. We also now have in stock bags of Spagnum Moss, Noble Fir Bundles and 12″ Noble Fir Wreath Frames.
We do also still have some places left on our Christmas Workshops which take place on Thursday 11th December and Tuesday 16th December from 10.00 – 12.30. These Workshops are always great fun and enjoyed by all those who attend. Please contact us for further details.
Unbelievably Christmas is now only a month away so do let us have your Christmas flower orders and we will look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks
Our warehouse is currently ‘buzzing’ with Church flower arrangers calling to collect their Easter flowers. From Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Lilies, Lisianthus and Roses to Daffodils, Iris, Narcissi and Tulips our cold store is full of flowers in shades of cream, white and yellow.
Amidst the Easter preparations we managed to fit in a demonstration last weekend led by North Tonbridge Flower Association Chairman Gill Smaggasgale. Gill has been a customer of ours for several years, ordering flowers via our overnight courier service, and happened to let slip one day that she had recently qualified as a Demonstrator.
Her demonstration entitled ‘Listening in Colour’ was based upon song titles and during the course of the afternoon Gill created designs depicting the following songs – “Chicago My Kind of Town”, “Summertime and the Living is Easy”, “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”, “Moonriver”, The Girl from Ipanema” and “It’s a wonderful World”. Whilst arranging Gill also entertained us with the origins and story behind each of the songs.
We have had some lovely feedback and comments from those who attended and it was a most enjoyable way to spend a Spring afternoon as the following photographs show
Happy New Year to you all and let’s hope 2014 is a happy, healthy and successful year for us all. It seems unbelievable that we are now almost half way through January but it seems a good opportunity to reflect on the events we were involved with leading up to Christmas.
We were delighted to work with Jane Rickard and the Surrey Area of NAFAS supplying the flowers to “Florimania for Christmas” at Hampton Court Palace. Having supplied “Spring Florimania” for a number of years it was wonderful to see the Palace transformed with a festive floral twist as Williams III’s apartments were dressed with Christmas floral arrangements. Visitors were also able to attend Christmas Wreath and Table Decoration demonstrations by Area Demonstrators.
We now look forward to supplying the next “Spring Florimania” to be held over Mothering Sunday weekend at the end of March.
On the 14th December we welcomed NAFAS demonstrator Irene Hickson to our warehouse for a demonstration entitled “Festive Fantasy”. Over 50 ladies attended the event which saw Irene display examples of festive arrangements in a multitude of colours from pink and purple to the more traditional reds and greens. Irene had been recommended to us by members of a local flower club and we were certainly not disappointed – her enthusiasm, humour and obvious love of flower arranging left everyone inspired and motivated to create their own Christmas designs.
Below is a small selection of photographs from the demonstration.
As we drew closer to Christmas we held two of our very popular Workshop mornings. Lead by our in house florist Rebecca Warwick workshop attendees were shown how to create two Christmas arrangements. The workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended and we have already been asked to hold a ‘tailor made’ workshop for two of the ladies who attended plus some of their friends in the Spring.
Below is a selection of photographs taken at both the Workshops.
18th December was an early start for Clare and Sally who were at Portsmouth Dockyard by 6.30 in the morning to deliver the flowers ordered for the Homecoming of the Royal Navy frigate HMS Lancaster. Members of the Ship’s company had pre-ordered either a single red rose or a bouquet of flowers for presentation to their loved ones on disembarkation from the Ship after their 7 month deployment to the Caribbean.
The pictures below show the boxes of flowers being loaded onto the launch for transportation out to the Ship prior to its arrival into the Dockyard.
I think that just about summarises the end of last year and we are now preparing for the coming weeks which will include Valentine’s Day and Mothering Sunday followed by what is looking to be a very busy Summer of weddings.
Nursery Fresh were delighted to supply the flowers for the Flower Festival held at St Marys Church, Buriton, Near Petersfield. With the theme based around Harvest Festival the Church was filled with stunning arrangements combining flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Flower Festival Designer and Organiser Margaret Davis was thrilled with all the flowers and complimented Nursery Fresh on the quality and subsequent longevity of them all.

As promised we are delighted to announce details of our forthcoming programme of events some or all of which we hope you will be able to attend.
We are delighted to have booked NAFAS Demonstrator Irene Hickson for our Christmas Demonstration and whilst Irene is playing her cards very close to her chest regarding the displays she will be creating “Festive Fantasy” is certainly an intriguing theme.
Tickets for Demonstrations we have held during the past year have sold out rapidly so do book up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Our pre-Christmas workshops proved very popular and incredible fun last year so whatever your experience of Flower Arranging do try and attend one of these – if either of these dates are not suitable for you why not try and get a group of friends together and we can tailor make a workshop for you.
We look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks
